WHAT WE FIND WHEN WE GO LOOKING PROPERLY.
Anonymized case examples from real commercial systems we've taken on. Composite figures from representative cases, not marketing math.
A "Healthy" 1.2 MW System That Was Anything But
Initial inspection revealed four panels with cracked cells dragging down two full strings, two combiner boxes with active water intrusion, and a monitoring system that had been mis-reporting production data for 8 months. The owner believed the system was healthy because the dashboard still showed green.
An 850 kW Array Where "Set It and Forget It" Caught Up
A heavily-soiled array no one had ever professionally cleaned. Production reports had drifted downward year over year, written off as "normal degradation." Initial cleaning, racking re-torque, and inverter diagnostics revealed the real problem — and produced a measurable single-day production lift.
2.4 MW University Solar Field
The university's sustainability office had been reporting steady year-over-year production declines, assumed to be normal panel degradation. Physical inspection told a different story. A combination of module-level shading from vegetation overgrowth on the perimeter, a bank of underperforming strings traced to two failed optimizers, and a pyranometer that had drifted 6 percent out of calibration, together accounted for the majority of the "degradation." Actual annual degradation was well within manufacturer specifications.
720 kW Regional Medical Center
The medical center's facilities director was concerned about inverter warranty status ahead of an expected expiration but had no documentation from the prior installer. Full audit uncovered: one inverter with a partially failed cooling fan running hot enough to trigger derating on warm days, two combiner boxes missing weatherproofing seals, and monitoring credentials that had never been transferred from the installer. All of these were fixable at low cost, and all were flying under the dashboard's alerting thresholds.
